About the Creators

Hello! My name is Todd Beuckens and I am a teacher based in Asia. I have been teaching ESL for over twenty years. I have taught in Japan, Taiwan, the U.S. and Thailand. I am currently teaching in Kyuushuu, Japan. I started elllo.org ten years ago and since then have started other sites for educational purposes.

I'm Shayna, originally from the U.S. but currently based in Brazil. I have a CELTA certificate and several years' experience teaching ESL both one-on-one and in groups. I'm also the founder of EspressoEnglish.net, which provides short, sweet online English lessons.

 

 

E-Learning

With e-learning, students can study remotely from the comfort of home or on the go. Teachers can also share their materials with fellow teachers and student around the world. This section looks at some ways teachers can create e-learning sites and material for consumption outside of the classroom.

Membership Sites

Similar to online classes, teachers can now have online schools in the form of communites that gather students in one membership site.. We look at some free and commercial options for creating a digital community for people with similar interests or goals.

Self-Access Sites

Self-access sites are the modern version of the traditional library, a place student can go to for resources and materials about particular content. Self-access sites are part-resource center, and part-lesson page. We take a look at a few and discuss why they are valuable to students and teachers.

E-Mail Course

With e-mail courses, teachers can create lessons and then send them to students either at an automated date or a time of the choosing. E-mail courses can be powerful educational tools because they initiate engagement to lesson material rather than having the student come to the content.


Media Channels

From MOOCs to Youtube, media channels allow educators a cheap and effective way to share lessons and instructional videos that can be viewed on various devices. Media channels also spare the creator the burden of creating a fully functioning website.


Downloadable Content

With cloud hosting and payment gateways that also serve as online stores and storage and distribution centers for digitial content, educators now can create material for offline consumption in the form of downlaodable videos, audio, and PDFs.
